The screenwriter was known as Simon Beaufoy who had written
Slumdog Millionaire which was based on Boeke’s prize winning and common writer’s
prize which was a nominated novel by Vikas Swarup. But whilst believing improvements
were required for it they had taken some trips and was one to India and whilst
being there they had gone and interviewed kids from the slums, being impressed
with their outcomes to things and the positiveness. His aim was to get across that slums aren't just full of negativity and some of
the things he picked up on were used. For example how when parents pass together
in a slum some are like family.
In the Summer of 2006, British companies Celador Films and
Film4 Production invited director Danny Boyle to read and review Slumdog
Millionaire. But he was unsure as he wasn't satisfied and interested in making “Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire?” This was produced by Celador, but then he had found
out that Beaufoy wrote it. Boyle was impressed by how Beaufoy had merged
multiple storylines together from Swarup’s book to just one narrative, and then
decided to commit to the project.
The film cost $15 million; So Celador required a U.S
distributor to share costs.
